In 1979, the ultimate movie monster was unleashed in
Ridley Scott’s legendary Alien. A
creature that was designed by H. R. Giger that so, well, alien, it has kept
audiences astounded for generations. The sequel, Aliens, by James Cameron was a major hit and it seemed that the
franchise was unstoppable. However, with the take of Alien 3 and the ever odd Alien
Resurrection, it seemed that the eerie magic of the creature was destroyed.
It was further buried into the ground after Alien
vs. Predator and Alien vs. Predator Requiem,
not to mention the game Alien vs.
Predator: Colonial Marines.
Fans
weren’t the only ones who felt this way, and it was released that District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp had been working on some concept
art without permission to do so from any studio that completely ignores Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection.
Rather than killing Corporal Hicks, he gave him acid
scars instead (which is way cooler, I love Corporal Hicks for life).
With these pictures going viral, it seemed more than
fans were on the wagon for a new attempt at an Alien film. Sigourney Weaver,
the famous Ellen Ripley that the Alien series is nothing without, showed
interest in the viral photos. She even hinted to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that she might be in
the new Neill Blomkamp Alien movie. Which, also, has been officially been
approved and a deal closed with 20th Century Fox. It seems the
dreams of all fans are finally coming true.
